Dear Sailors

Hopefully your year is going well. We are now starting our summer fun.

Our work day April 6 was productive however, we did have some torrential rains which washed out our new road. If the dirt work had had time to settle the erosion likely would not have been as bad. Benton County sustained major erosion to some of their projects as well. Anyway we will try to fix the road and improve drainage as best we can but we can’t engineer against these major washouts. Your patience is appreciated. We will continue with our landscaping plan as the road is fixed.

Our next work day is June 1. Remember that you need two credits for the year. If you have personal items stored under the Charlton House or in the tool shed, please remove them or they will be removed during work day. There are old sailboards, bimini tops, and gas cans stored around. Gas cans are particularly dangerous. There is a storage shelf on the outside wall of the tool shed. Utilize it rather than put the gas cans in an enclosed area. Also if you have a dinghy, inflatable or canoe on any of the ramps to any of the docks, please move it to the dry storage lot. The dinghies hinder ramp movement when we move the docks and are generally an eyesore, especially if deflated and growing algae.

The Board is moving forward with the dock 5 expansion to have a sail folding area at the end of the dock. The Corps has approved the project and we have a bid in hand to start the work. Hopefully we will be able to incorporate a couple of storage sites for small sailboats to ease the use of club owned boats for the youth. In that vein, we have been asked to receive as a donation a relatively new Zuma for use in a youth program. Hopefully that will work out. We also hope to complete the waste pump out project shortly but until we do the pontoon pump out is still and will remain available.

We have some fun events coming up in the near future. Rich Harper, our social chairman, has Cup Uno Fiesta  scheduled after the race on Saturday May 25. This is Mexican themed so bring your best salsa, dip or guacamole for the competition. Patron tequila will reward the winner voted on by the attendees. We will have fajitas, beans and rice furnished by the club. Rich and I will man our frozen margarita mixers. If others have those marvels of modern merriment bring them. Yours truly will be smoking or grilling the meats for the fajitas so be short with your criticism and lavish with your praise. Anyone who wishes to remain on land and assist with the preparation on May 25, let Rich and me know. We’ll be into the tequila early and sombreros are required.

Saturday June 8 is the Founder’s Cup Regatta followed by a BBQ catered dinner by Elmo and Legal Catering with live music by Earl and Them.

We all love our dogs but remember to lease them if they are the club. Not everyone enjoys an overly friendly wet dog rubbing or sniffing on them. Also when you use a dock cart and spill fuel or oil in it, please clean it for the next user. It simply consideration for the other members’ use of the club facilities.

Espero verte Sabado 25 de mayo a la Copa Uno Fiesta.
